March of the Writers – Day 11: Making It Personal

As writers, we often weave little pieces of ourselves into our work. Whether it’s a recurring theme, a hidden reference, or a personal Easter egg, these details can create a rewarding experience for dedicated readers. Do you include unique things in your stories, poems, or books that connect your works together?

For me, I love including subtle nods that tie different pieces of my writing together. Whether it’s a recurring phrase, a character name that holds significance, or a deeper theme that runs through my poetry and stories, I enjoy adding elements that reward those who truly dive into my work. It makes my writing feel more personal and creates a stronger connection with my readers.

Some authors include inside jokes, references to past works, or even shared locations that appear across multiple stories. Others use symbols, motifs, or hidden messages that only attentive readers will catch.

How about you? Do you add personal touches to your writing? What little details do you include to make your work special for returning readers? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
