Poetry has always been my first love, the steady rhythm of my words forming verses that speak to the soul. But fiction? That was a beast I wasn’t sure I could tame. Yet, here I am, working on my own stories, sharpening my skills with every scene and character I create. That’s why I went back to school—to truly master the craft of storytelling.
Long ago, in the distant 90s, I wrote a play for a theater final. Sadly, it vanished into the abyss of time, never to be found again. Maybe it’s out there somewhere, hiding in the shadows, waiting for a rewrite, or upon a stage where actors play my final scene.
And then there’s music. With a guitar in hand, sometimes I find myself weaving words into melodies, crafting songs that blend poetry with sound. It’s a different kind of storytelling, but one that feels just as natural.
Pushing past our comfort zones is where real growth happens as writers. Have you ever challenged yourself with a new writing style or genre?
