Some people don’t just appear in your life—they shape the writer you become.
On our journey as writers, we often travel alone on the page—but we’re never truly alone. Along the way, there are people who shape not only our craft but also our confidence, our perspective, and our understanding of the writing life. These are the voices that push us, challenge us, and remind us why we keep putting words into the world, even when it’s hard.

For me, several key figures have made an enormous difference. Each one has offered guidance, inspiration, or practical wisdom that has helped me grow—not just as a writer, but as a storyteller willing to take risks, explore the darkness, and share my work with others. Here are a few of the people who have profoundly influenced my journey.
James P. Nettles

Jim’s insight into genre fiction and publishing has been invaluable. His Author Essentials guidance sparked long-night conversations and helped me understand the business side of writing. His book Business Essentials for Writers taught me how to navigate the ever-changing publishing world.

J.D. Estrada

JD isn’t just an amazing writer—he’s the mind behind March of the Writers. His passion for storytelling and building community has inspired countless indie authors. He also created my favorite Twitter community, #Sockittome! Beyond that, his poetry has taught me to embrace the joy in writing—to have fun with it, even when exploring dark themes. Poetry should engage both the writer and the reader, and when it stops being fun, it’s a signal to shift, experiment, and keep it alive.

Katie Salidas

Katie’s guidance in the indie author space has been a beacon.

Just Write and Edit the Damn Book was pivotal in helping me finish my memoir, take it through editing, and navigate the publishing process. Her Spilling Ink Podcast gave me insight, perspective, and inspiration.
Anais Chartschenko
Website:

Anais opened my eyes to the endless possibilities in storytelling. Her poetry taught me how to tell a story within verse, and I’ve woven many of her techniques into my own work.

Each of these authors has shaped my journey in a different way—creatively, practically, and spiritually. I wouldn’t be the writer I am today without them. Thank you. 🖤
