March of the Writers – Day 6 – Writing Tribe

Writing Tribe

Writing is often described as a solitary craft. Hours alone with a blank page, wrestling with words, chasing ideas down rabbit holes only you can see.

But no writer truly does this alone.

Every author has a tribe—people who share the journey, offer advice, challenge your thinking, celebrate wins, and help you keep going when the work feels impossible.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to connect with a group of incredible writers and creators from different genres, cultures, and walks of life. Each one has taught me something about storytelling, publishing, creativity, or simply perseverance.

My writing tribe includes:

Jim is a fantastic storyteller and someone whose insights into genre fiction and publishing have been incredibly valuable. his Author Essentials company had become part of many of our long night conversations.

JD is not only an amazing writer but also the creator behind March of the Writers itself. His enthusiasm for storytelling and community building has inspired countless indie authors. And one of my most favorite tweet communities #Sockittome, sharing your favorite socks. Which reminds me, I got a new pair.

Joe Compton

Joe has built an incredible platform supporting independent creators through interviews, discussions, and community engagement in the indie storytelling world. Joe’s friendship has been a really good one. in the past when I struggled with my PTSD. Joe was there. Many nights we spent chatting it up on a zoom call or video call. He is the teacher ya know the John Keating of our world. Which is why when I see him on Go Indie Now, I usually pop in with an Oh Captain! My Captain!

Here’s a look at Go Indie Now:

Katie has long been a voice of experience and wisdom in the indie author space, sharing practical guidance for writers navigating publishing. I loved her Spilling Ink Podcast, the atmosphere, topics, guests and knowledge I gained from the podcast help shape the writer I am.

Anais brings creativity and perspective that constantly reminds me how wide and imaginative the storytelling world can be. I love her poetry collection and own most of her books.

Lilian is someone I’ve had many great conversations with about writing, publishing, and the creative process. But also the magic world, dragons, and the mystical world of tarot card reading

Joshua Robertson
Joshua is another writer whose insights and discussions about storytelling have always been valuable.

Meeting this group of people changed my experience as a writer. They come from different genres, different cultures, and different creative paths, yet they all share the same drive to tell stories and build something meaningful.

Through conversations with them, I’ve learned more about the indie author world than I ever could have on my own.

Over the past few years while I was focused on finishing my degree at Southern New Hampshire University, I haven’t always been as present in those friendships as I would have liked. But the respect and appreciation I have for these writers hasn’t changed.

If I had to name the people in my writing circle that I most enjoy learning from and talking with, it would be these seven.

Writing may begin in solitude, but it grows in community.

And I’m grateful to have this tribe walking the road alongside me.
